She recalled that her eczema first appeared during childhood and disappeared in her teens -- only to return suddenly and aggressively in her early 20s.She explained that the condition was a result of years of poor lifestyle and dietary patterns that built up in the body.&quot;When people try to heal, they always think like quick fixes. That&#x27;s what we&#x27;re taught in the medical system,&quot; said Clenci, who noted that her own healing process through detoxification took about a year.She stressed that every body is different and that healing depends on factors such as environment, toxicity, and individual response.As the new year approaches, Clenci is advocating for detoxification -- not only for those who are sick, but also as a preventive practice to reprogram the body to a healthy direction.&quot;You don&#x27;t have to wait for that moment where you get really sick. You can  start those preventative changes,&quot; she said, stressing that an annual detox can help address health issues before they worsen.&quot;The true definition of detox is putting your body in the right environment so that you don&#x27;t get in the way of it healing itself,&quot; she added. &quot;That is done by consuming plant-based foods [and] cutting out dairy, eggs, proteins, meats for a period of time.&quot;&quot;When I first started detoxing and when I finally healed that was the best I&#x27;d ever felt in my life.&quot;For beginners, Clenci advises against drastic changes that may lead to burnout.Instead, she recommends small, sustainable shifts, starting with one simple habit -- beginning every day with fruit.&quot;Whenever you break your fast, start your day with fruit because it helps flush out what your body healed overnight,&quot; she said, recommending seasonal and locally available fruits such as papaya, mango, guava, and pomelo in the Philippines.She also advises trying short periods of plant-based eating -- for a few days, a week, or longer -- as a way to reset the body. Clenci also suggests doing &quot;Meatless Mondays&quot; for meat-lovers.Having followed a fully plant-based lifestyle for over a decade, Clenci says she feels &quot;fantastic.&quot; Sugar cravings are a thing of the past for the former beauty queen, who fulfills her protein requirements through plant-based food as well.Clenci also highlighted the environmental and ethical benefits of plant-based living,&quot;It&#x27;s living food.
