Handout </div>For Cristina Moreno Cornejo, success did not come with her first business — or even her second.After experimenting with ventures ranging from food to water refilling, she eventually discovered an industry that matched both her creativity and entrepreneurial instincts: fragrance. Today, she is growing Sélentrina Scents with ambitions of turning it into an internationally recognized Filipino perfume brand.Officially launched in January 2025, Sélentrina Scents combines Cornejo&#x27;s passion for fragrance with a personal story. The brand&#x27;s name was carefully crafted to sound elegant, timeless and slightly mysterious. The name evokes “fluidity, femininity and luxury,” something that feels both celestial and intimate.“More personally, Sélentrina is also a combination inspired by my name and my children, as I dedicate all my work to my son and daughter,” Cornejo told ABS-CBN News. “That makes the brand not just a business, but something deeply meaningful and personal to me. I officially ventured into this brand in January 2025, but the concept and vision have been in development for quite some time.”Sélentrina Scents was born from a deep love for fragrance as a form of self-expression. “I’ve always believed that scent is more than just something you wear… it’s something you feel and remember,” Cornejo said. “I wanted to create a brand that captures emotion, identity and elegance in every bottle. Handout </div>Before fully committing Sélentrina Scents, Cornejo explored a few, early business ventures that helped shape her journey. Her first was an online restaurant called Clarissa’s, which she started during the pandemic. She eventually had to stop for personal reasons. Then, she then tried opening a water station business, but realized her heart wasn’t fully in it.She later ventured into fragrances through Prestige Noir, which eventually evolved into what is now Sélentrina Scents. “It was in this space that I truly found my passion and everything started to align with my vision and purpose,” Cornejo said. “I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, even at a young age.”Sélentrina Scents started as a small operation. “Just me managing most aspects of the business,” said Cornejo. “Over time, as demand grew, so did the team. Today, the brand is stronger, more structured and supported by people who share the same vision and passion. The growth has been organic but steady.”One of the biggest challenges in running Sélentrina Scents was building credibility in a competitive market. “Establishing trust, maintaining quality and standing out required patience and resilience,” insisted Cornejo. “There were also moments of trial and error, especially in product development and branding… but those challenges ultimately refined the brand.”<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1783763439404IMG_5968.jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/>Cristina Cornejo (seated, right) with the staff of Sélentrina Scents. Handout</div>Cornejo is undoubtedly proud about her latest business milestone. “Every milestone feels incredibly meaningful, especially because this brand is something I built from the ground up,” she said. “Seeing people connect with Sélentrina, whether through our scents, packaging or story, is something I’m truly proud of. It’s a reminder that the vision is resonating.”Being a business owner gives one the biggest advantage in having creative freedom and the ability to bring a vision to life. That is fulfilling for Cornejo. “The challenge, however, is that responsibility never really turns off,” Cornejo said. “You’re constantly thinking about the business. It’s demanding, but also deeply fulfilling because you see the direct impact of your work.”After only one year, Cornejo managed to expand Sélentrina Scents and make her business flourish. “Growth has come from staying consistent with the brand’s identity while continuously evolving,” she offered. “I focused on building a strong visual presence, creating high-quality products and connecting with customers through storytelling. Being hands-on with every detail… from packaging to marketing… helped shape a cohesive and recognizable brand.Cornejo said her long-term goal is to position Sélentrina Scents as a globally competitive Filipino fragrance brand.&quot;That means elevating product quality, investing in branding and storytelling, and expanding both online and physical presence,&quot; she said. &quot;I also want to highlight Filipino creativity and craftsmanship through the brand.&quot;
