Handout</div>As consumers become more selective about what they wear, some Filipino designers are betting that craftsmanship and longevity — not fast-changing trends — will define the future of local fashion.Among them is Jaycee Dioneza, founder and creative director of Filipino clothing label orangedot, whose path into fashion began not in a design studio but in ukay-ukay shops.While studying Operations Management, Dioneza bought secondhand clothes, repaired and redesigned them, then sold the finished pieces to classmates and customers looking for one-of-a-kind garments. The experience, he said, taught him that the value of clothing lies less in whether it is new than in how well it is made.&quot;I realized creativity isn&#x27;t about having unlimited resources,&quot; Dioneza said. &quot;It&#x27;s about seeing potential where other people don&#x27;t.&quot;Growing up in Baler, Aurora, Dioneza also found inspiration in his mother, a seamstress, whom he watched carefully cut patterns and stitch garments.Those quiet moments became his earliest lessons in craftsmanship. Handout</div>His background in Operations Management also influences his creative process, particularly when deciding which ideas never reach production.&quot;I&#x27;ve learned that saying no is just as important as saying yes,&quot; he said. &quot;Every piece should contribute to something bigger than itself.&quot;Beyond clothing, Dioneza hopes to eventually create a space where designers, artists and musicians can collaborate, viewing fashion as part of a broader creative community rather than a standalone industry.As interest in more intentional consumption grows, Dioneza said he believes designers who focus on quality and purpose will be better positioned for the future than those driven solely by frequent collections.His own career, he noted, began by giving discarded clothing a second life.&quot;Fashion isn&#x27;t just about what we wear,&quot; he said. &quot;It&#x27;s about the values we express through what we create.&quot;For Dioneza, that philosophy remains central to his work: creating garments designed to last long after trends have faded.
