MANILA — The University of Santo Tomas (UST) capped its month-long Christmas celebration with the 34th Paskuhan concert, drawing tens of thousands of students, staff, and alumni to the university grounds for a night of music, tradition, and community spirit.Nation’s girl group BINI closed the night as the final act, following a grand fireworks display that has become synonymous with Paskuhan. Speaking before their much-awaited comeback performance, the group underscored how meaningful the event is to them.“First quarter palang ng 2025 bukambibig na po namin ang UST paskuhan na sana makapagperform kami kasi parang binless kami nito eh, kasi last time na nagperform kami noong 2023, this is where it all started na parang may magic ang UST paskuhan especially the fireworks! Yun yung pinakaexcited kami, so thank you po sa mga thomasians na nagwelcome sa amin, kasi sobrang mahal na mahal po kami ng UST at ramdam na ramdam po namin iyon thank you po,&quot; said BINI Jhoanna.On their plans for the holidays, BINI Maloi shared that the group will focus on themselves and their families“For this Christmas gusto namin na makapagrecover talaga kami, not only physically but emotionally, mentally everything. gusto namin ilaan ito para sa sarili namin para sa pamilya namin and yung mga gusto talaga naming gawin kasi we worked very hard this year and next year is another year to conquer alam mo yun.. to work harder so gusto namin talaga na ilaan lang ito for ourselves.”The “Nation&#x27;s Girl Group” is also excited about their 2026 Coachella debut.“Excited po kami for Coachella syempre, pagdating na pagdating namin pagbalik magfofocus po talaga kami for Coachella and of course for upcoming events malay mo concert, new song,&quot; said BINI Stacey.UST’s Paskuhan, exclusive to the Thomasian community, featured a packed lineup blending student performers and OPM guest artists. Ahead of the headliners, the crowd was treated to performances by Amiel Sol, Zack Tabudlo, Thomasian dance troupes, and more.Despite rain showers, attendance remained strong. UST said more than 30,000 people attended the afternoon and evening concerts.At past eight in the evening, Ben&amp;Ben took the stage, with fans singing along to hits such as “Kapangyarihan,” “Sa Susunod na Habang Buhay,” “Paninindigan Kita,” and “Bibingka.”For many students, Paskuhan marked a celebratory release after finals week. Arra Dela Cruz, a UST student, said the tradition is deeply ingrained in campus life:“Very important event po siya for us, kasi right after finals po namin siya, so right after ng suffering namin, parang ito na po yung nagiging outlet po namin. it has been a part of our culture and tradition as thomasians, embedded na po siya sa amin. Every event naman po sa USTe inuulan so sanay na sanay na po kami, tutuloy po kami until matapos. The rain cannot stop us. Kahit hindi makarating ang BINI nandito naman po kami.”Another student, Dranreb Colcol, even postponed going home to attend: “For me tradition na po kasi ng USTe ang paskuhan. Five days na po kaming walang klase, wala na po kaming ginagawa pero we waited for this. We waited for this grand celebration. Ilocos po dapat ako uuwi pero I waited po for this, it&#x27;s still worth it po.”<div>“LIGHT AND HOPE” BEYOND THE CAMPUS</div>According to Philippe Jose Hernandez, Director of the UST Communications Bureau, Paskuhan also marked the final day of the university’s month-long Christmas observance. This year’s theme centered on offering light and hope amid national challenges.“It&#x27;s the Jubilee of hope for the Catholic Church but admittedly in the country we also realized that it is not necessarily the happiest of times, but we are not deterred by hardships, kaya ang aming theme ay light among us, hope through us. Kahit na madilim ang ating kapaligiran, there is still light within us. There is a light among us as a community at sana yung liwanag na yun at hindi mananatili na sayo lang. May it be a source of hope for other people and that is why we were conscious na kahit nagcecelebrate tayo within the four walls of our community, we always reach out.”Fireworks lit up the night sky and music echoed across España Boulevard, past 10 in the evening with UST’s Paskuhan once again affirmed its place as a cherished Thomasian tradition bringing together music, faith, and hope at the close of the year.
