Zerrudo, NCCA chair and executive director, said the honorees represent Filipino creativity and identity on the world stage.“Ang tapang na iharap ang ating wika, ang ating imahen, ang ating kasaysayan, ang ating mga kuwento sa entablado ng mundo … Ang paninindigan na nagsasabing ang Filipino na may sariling tinig, may dangal at may sariling henyo,” Zerrudo said in his remarks.First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined Zerrudo and NCCA Commissioner for the Arts Lordinio Vegara in presenting the awards.The ceremony marked the closing highlight of the country’s observance of National Arts Month.<div>Architecture and allied arts</div>Five honorees were recognized in architecture and allied arts, including GFP Architects, represented by architect Annette Gaddi-Liganor, which won Best Residential High-Rise Architecture at the Asia Pacific Property Awards.Architect Normandy N. Canlas of Normandy Architects received two honors at the Global Architect and Builder Awards Malaysia edition, while Erven B. Digal of Digal Architect and Builders was named Best Architect for Institutional Project at the same event.Landscape firm SGS Designs by Vic Lopez Dul-loog earned an Outstanding Award from the International Federation of Landscape Architects Asia Pacific Region, while ASYA Design received a five-star recognition at the 2025 Asia Pacific Property Awards.The NCCA also recognized architect William Ti, winner of the masterplan category of the World Architecture Festival, whose award had been scheduled for last year’s ceremony.<div>Music</div>Eight artists and groups were honored in music.Among them were composer Ian Gabriel Corpuz, winner of the Chorus Austin Composer’s Competition, and the University of Santo Tomas Singers under Fidel Calalang Jr., which won the grand prize at the City of Derry International Choir Festival.Other honorees included the Philippine Meistersingers led by Ramon Lijauco Jr., which won the grand prix at the Rimini International Choral Competition, and Michelle Mariposa, grand finalist winner of the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition.Sound designer Fabian Obispo was also honored after winning an award at the Lucille Lortel Awards.<div>Visual arts and literature</div>In visual arts, photographers Christopher G. Andres and Gina Custodio Meneses were recognized for winning international photography competitions.Five writers were honored in literary arts, including John Bengan, Roehl Joseph Dazo, Christian Jil R. Benitez and Alvin B. Yapan, who were recognized under the PEN Presents program linked to the International Booker Prize.Writer Merlie M. Alunan also received the International Writers Award from the Royal Society of Literature.<div>Cinema, dance and design</div>In cinema, Judy Ann Santos was honored after winning best actress at the Fantasporto International Film Festival in Portugal. Filmmaker Joselito Altarejos and actress-director Laurice Guillen were also recognized for awards at the Ahmedabad International Film Festival.Seven honorees were recognized in dance, including street dance and hip-hop crews that won titles at international competitions such as the World Hip Hop Dance Championship and the World Dance Crew Championship.Two designers were also honored. Chad Gabrielle Tanutan and Ivan Cedric Fabia won top prizes at the International Footwear Design Competition organized by the Confederation of International Footwear Associations.<div>‘Art is a personal journey’</div>Speaking on behalf of the honorees, Guillen said artistic achievement is shaped by passion, struggle and mentorship.“While we are here to celebrate the accolades we have received, I believe the true value of this occasion lies in sharing our individual struggles, our unique journeys and the philosophies we hold dear,” she said.The Ani ng Dangal, or “Harvest of Honor,” is a state recognition presented annually by the NCCA to celebrate Filipino artists whose works have earned international acclaim.
