It continues to develop productions rooted in Filipino culture and history while engaging with contemporary social realities.The anniversary season is anchored on the theme “Past Forward,” which the company described as both a reflection on its body of work and a call to sustain relevance for future generations.The season opens with “Farewell, Let’s Go South,” a multinational Asian theater collaboration co-presented by Tanghalang Pilipino and partners from South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Written by Chung Chiao, who co-directs the production with Sang Bae Jun, the production explores themes of love, sacrifice and humanity through movement, music and poetic language, centering on the final moments of Che Guevara and Jeon Tae-il, while also incorporating elements of Filipino revolutionary poet Emmanuel “Eman” Lacaba’s “Salvaged Poems” through Tanghalang Pilipino performers. It runs July 10 to 11 at Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.The company follows this with “Sayaw ng mga Ilaw,” based on a story by Cheeno Marlo Sayuno and adapted by Juan Ekis, with music by Krina Cayabyab and direction by Jonathan Tadioan. The production traces the story of Laya, a young girl grappling with grief and uncertainty after her father, a construction worker, goes missing, while her family navigates loss and resilience.  It will run from September to October at Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.In November, Tanghalang Pilipino brings back “Gregoria Lakambini: A Pinay Pop Musical,” written by Nicanor Tiongson and Eljay Castro Deldoc, with music by Nica Del Rosario, Matthew Chang and FlipMusic. Directed and co-choreographed by Delphine Buencamino, the musical follows Gregoria de Jesus from her life in Caloocan to her role as Lakambini of the Katipunan. It returns following its earlier runs and multiple nominations at Philstage’s Gawad Buhay Awards. It will run November 13 to 29 at the Proscenium Theater in Rockwell, Makati.The season continues in 2027 with “Ricardo Segundo,” a Filipino translation of William Shakespeare’s “Richard II,” translated and directed by Guelan Varela-Luarca. The production, which explores political conflict and questions of succession within a monarchy, stars Marco Viaña as King Ricardo and Fernando “Nanding” Josef as Juan de Gante, alongside members of the Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company. It is set to run from February to March 2027 at Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.The anniversary season will conclude with a 40th anniversary concert scheduled for May 2027 at the CCP Main Theater, featuring performances and presentations by artists associated with Tanghalang Pilipino.
