She rose to prominence through short-form informational videos on her TikTok and Facebook. <em>Winkie Bernaldez, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span>MANILA — Delivered with her bubbly demeanor and positive outlook, Louise Anne Nagal charmed her way into the social media feeds of millions with just three words: “This is LAAAANNSS!”</div><p>It’s been a year and a half since the fifth-year veterinary medicine student began regularly creating informational content centered around her primary interest -- animals -- and gradually amassing an audience online.</p><p>But after she marked her 2 millionth follower last June 17, the LANS Facebook page gained over double that number in just a week, and is set to breach a total of 6 million as of this writing.</p><p>That catchphrase -- originally meant as a one-time thing for her first vlog -- has already graduated into a meme.</p><p>Moreso, her virality sparked discussions about the objectification of women on social media and the double standards often imposed on content creators.</p><p>It was a debate Nagal could not help but weigh in on, even calling out those she deemed disrespectful, and showing that the nice girl in the eyes of many was unafraid to also fight back.</p><p>Yet while thankful and admittedly overwhelmed with the bigger platform and wider support, the 24-year-old clarified that being famous was not the goal in itself.</p><p>“Hindi po talaga ako doon po nakatingin,” she told ABS-CBN News.</p><p>“I always, always remind myself to stay grounded, mata sa taas, paa sa lupa. Nandito po ako for a certain purpose and responsibility and for advocacies na pinanghahawakan natin, but always remember your priority and why you started,” she said.</p><p>She hopes the opportunities opened by the recognition she is getting would allow her to spread more awareness on animal welfare and the environment and inspire people along the way.</p><p>“Lahat ng po ito is by the grace of God. Photo by Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News.</span></span></span></div><p>She may turn her head to those calling her LANS nowadays, but Louise Anne -- or L.A. to those who know her personally -- considers the persona only one aspect of her real self.</p><p>While “LANS” reflects her sunny side, L.A., she said, also has “a very strong” personality and feels emotions deeply. But both share the same positive outlook that everything happens for a reason.</p><p>The name, she explained, came from the acronym of her full real name and represents the team behind her.</p><p>“LANS is part of Louise Anne lang, pero hindi ‘yon siya talaga. Mahirap na sabihin na success niya ‘yon. It&#x27;s not about LANS po, it&#x27;s about what LANS gives to the people, so doon po talaga ako mas focused right now,” she said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/celebrities/2025/10/13/arshie-larga-shares-importance-of-making-informative-content-use-your-clout-responsibly-1118" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Arshie Larga shares importance of making informative content: ‘Use your clout responsibly’</a></div><p>Veterinary medicine -- the field LANS draws much of her educational content -- was one she hardly even knew of back in high school.</p><p>An uncle, she recalled, suggested it as her college course since she was fond of various animals even as a kid. She entered Cavite State University amid the COVID pandemic.</p><p>“Along the way habang nag-aaral ako ng veterinary medicine, talagang minahal ko na po siya, to the point na if [papipiliin] ako ulit ngayon, ‘yun at ‘yun po talaga ‘yung pupuntahan ko kasi I found my purpose ko sa field po talaga na yun,” she said.</p><p>She traces the roots of her content creation journey to her stint in student government, when she helped produce a public service video designed to guide incoming freshmen.</p><p>And despite Nagal&#x27;s rising fame, it’s her life as a student that comes first. That means fitting in content creation and a growing slew of media and collab invites around her classes and school activities.</p><p>“Mahirap po siya, sobra, pero babalik at babalik po tayo doon sa siguro na-e-enjoy ko din po ‘yong ginagawa ko,” she said.</p><p>“And I’m really sticking [to] the fact na nandito ako kasi meron tayong ginagampanan na responsibility and purpose. And God put us here, placed us here, kasi alam Niya na kakayanin ko. Some meanwhile offered up names of other “educreators” who are also pioneering informational content, some a little longer than LANS.</p><p>The conversation bothered Nagal and caused her restless nights. </p><p>“Nakakalungkot po na kinukumpara or binababa ‘yong mga kababaihan gamit po ang pangalan ko,” she said.</p><p>“Parang nagulat po ako na nagkaroon agad sila ng standard ng kababaihan, ng babae na sino ang dapat na irespeto. Well in fact dapat binibigay naman dapat ‘yon sa lahat and hindi ba pwedeng girls or women want to express themselves sa online.”</p><p>She stressed that a woman’s appearance or choice of self-expression should entirely be up to them, adding that even she at times dresses in outfits more revealing than how she usually presents herself as LANS.  </p><p>“For all the women out there, stay who you are. Appearance, yes importante, pero your character is what&#x27;s more important. And for those people po na namamaliit or hindi po rumi-respeto po sa iba, think twice po because it’s a reflection of who you are, not what you saw or kung ano ‘yong nakikita mo,” she said.</p><p>On June 23, she posted a strong callout to her “bastos” followers, asserting that “women do not have to fit one image to deserve respect.” </p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fthisislans%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0383FjjMH44HL1qYCwUbUig3katGAY8cCY5XN2XW5SMkVtAamW9LVioAE3BXuQkpjjl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="259" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>“Hindi ko po ma-consider na achievement yung pagtaas ng followers kung may mga kababaihan naman pong ibinababa para lang may maitaas,” read her post.</p><p>Nagal said she had to restrain herself in writing that.</p><p>“Si Louise Anne po naiinis din po talaga, and I have a very strong personality po talaga as Louise Anne, pero si LANS po talaga ‘yong mabait na part. So medyo kinonstruct ko po siya, in a sense na hindi masyadong matapang, parang gan’yan, hindi po attacking,” she told ABS-CBN News.</p><p>Nagal admits her annoyance also stems from personal experience. Even before her surge in popularity, she was already fending off lurid comments in her posts. </p><p>“Kung ako nga po, kung hindi ako nakaligtas doon sa pambabastos, kaya nakakalungkot po, parang ang hypocrite na sabihin na ‘Gayahin mo si LANS’, ‘si LANS ano, worthy ‘yan irespeto’,” she said.</p><p>Even more worrying among the more recent posts were creators who used generative artificial intelligence (AI) to depict LANS in intimate poses with them.</p><p>“Nakakainis lang na kailangan pa silang paalahanan o i-remind na rumespeto sa ibang tao. Okay lang po sana, maintindihan ko po, kung sa ibang bata mo siya ituturo, pero hindi po. Sabi nga nila developed na yung frontal cortex nila, so ayon po,” she said.</p><p>&quot;So it’s a reflection of their character and values, kaya nakakainis.&quot;<br/><br/><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/2024/2/7/tesda-offers-course-on-content-creation-1620" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">TESDA offers course on content creation</a></p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/life/04/23/23/aspiring-sped-teacher-on-tiktok-hopes-to-inspire-youth" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Aspiring SPED teacher on TikTok hopes to inspire youth to teach special needs children</a></div><p>While she is happy to be recognized for her niche in content, for Nagal there is space in social media for both the educational and the entertaining.</p><p>“Nakaka-sad din po na parang ibinababa rin po nila &#x27;yung mga content creator na nasa entertainment side,” she said.</p><p>“Importante ang educational to tap your brain and importante rin ‘yong entertainment contents to tap your emotions po talaga, and ‘yong pagiging bubbly mo as a person to uplift you and kaya ayon po, lahat, lahat may ginagampanan.&quot;</p><p>Instead of pitting creators against each other, Nagal asked netizens to respect and support them without belittling others, adding that the work of content creators is also not easy.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>STILL LEARNING</strong></div><p>What is sure is that with her bigger platform and wider audience, LANS said she will continue the balancing act between consistent content creation and pursuing her veterinarian dream –- and use both to complement each other.<br/><br/>&quot;Personally ayaw ko pong sumikat, pero kailangan mo siyang tanggapin kasi sinimulan mo siya and that&#x27;s the only way for you to be able na mas madaling maibigay yung information sa ibang tao,&quot; she said.</p><p>She’s also glad that through her visibility, other young people are getting encouraged to pursue veterinary medicine.</p><p>Among the animal welfare issues she hopes to spread more awareness on are the plight of stray dogs and cats.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:360px;display:block"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1782786091238IMG_8156.jpeg" style="width:360px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="LANS with her pet dog, Max. Screengrab from her TikTok account video.</span></span></span></div><p>She acknowledged the added responsibility in her line of content to make sure every video is well-researched and accurate, but she is thankful for the professionals who take the time to message her for the times she gets something wrong.</p><p>“My plan po is to continue and to continue improving po, ‘yong mga contents natin, so continue learning din as well,” she said.</p><p>“Akala po kasi ng karamihan dahil educational content creator ka, alam mo na lahat.
