Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA -- Veteran journalist Karmina Constantino revealed that her podcast, “KC After Hours,” was created not primarily for views, revenue or online popularity, but as a lasting gift to her four children.During her interview on “Oh My Gan!,” Constantino recalled a period when she was uncertain whether she would still have a job because of the challenges faced by ABS-CBN.Constantino said she was prepared to accept that her career in broadcasting might come to an end and believed she could simply find another source of happiness.“I took it as, ‘Okay, this is going to be the end of this chapter. Maybe I’ll just find another source of happiness,’” she said.Her husband, Noel Torres, however, encouraged her to create her own podcast after seeing how much joy journalism brought her.“He said, ‘I can’t let that happen. You’ve been doing this for so long. It brings you so much happiness. I cannot let one day happen when you’ll wake up and you won’t have that,’” Constantino recalled.Torres then suggested that she start a podcast.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/overseas/05/29/23/karmina-constantino-on-fighting-disinformation">Karmina Constantino vows to keep pushing back vs. disinformation</a></div>Constantino initially resisted the idea, saying she was already around 50 years old and had no experience creating that type of digital content. But her husband encouraged her to try without placing too much pressure on the project.“He said, ‘If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. But just try,’” she said.As Constantino began putting the podcast together, the project gradually became more personal.“I felt like, ‘Okay, this is going to be a love letter to my children,’” she shared.Constantino said her children may not be interested in watching all her episodes now, but she hopes they will discover the conversations in the future.“Maybe one day, they would want to listen to a conversation I had with someone they think they want to learn from. And this is going to be it,” she explained.Constantino said she carefully chooses guests who can offer lessons and insights that may someday benefit her children.“Hindi ako naglalagay ng guests na hindi rin mapapakinabangan ng mga anak ko because, at the end of the day, this is for them as well,” she said.The journalist also reminded her production team that their goal should not be measured solely through online engagement or earnings.“We’re not going to do this for the likes, for the hits, for the revenue,” she said.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/2025/6/23/respectful-but-relentless-karmina-constantino-opens-up-on-fearless-interviews-1131">Respectful but relentless: Karmina Constantino opens up on fearless interviews</a></div>Constantino said she wants to offer meaningful content amid the negativity often found on digital platforms.“Gusto ko may mapanood na ganito yung mga anak ko. Hindi man ngayon, maybe later. Sana matisod nila,” she added.Family, according to Constantino, has always been her priority, even before she became a wife and mother.“Even when I was single, it’s always family over everything. And now that I’m married with four kids, family over everything pa rin,” she said.Constantino described her husband as her sounding board and safe space, particularly after difficult interviews or stressful days at work.“We’re each other’s sounding board. We’re each other’s safe space,” she said. She added that respect remains non-negotiable in their marriage, even during disagreements.&quot;Even when we argue, we argue with respect,” Constantino said.She admitted that she used to  heated during arguments early in their relationship, while Torres remained calm and refused to engage until she was ready to have a respectful conversation.“I learned. That’s success right now,” she said.Her ultimate dream is to see her children become happy, kind and responsible adults who give back to the country.“The ultimate success for me would be to see my kids living happily on their own, soaring, enjoying life, being kind human beings and giving back to the country,” she said.Constantino shared that she and her husband regularly pray for guidance as they raise their children.“My prayer every day is, ‘Please help us to be the best parents we could ever be to our kids, the kind that they want and the kind that they need,’” she said.The journalist also hopes to pass on the values and legacy of her grandparents, historians and activists Renato Constantino and Letizia Roxas Constantino.Through the Constantino Foundation, their family works to make history relevant and useful to present and future generations.“Ang layon nito, gawing usable ang ating nakaraan. Ang layon nito, buhayin ang kasaysayan,” she explained.“History should not just be read in textbooks and then set aside.
