ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA — ABS-CBN News Channel anchor and veteran broadcast journalist Rico Hizon was honored with the “Asia&#x27;s Inspirational Leader in Broadcast and Media Excellence” award at the Asia&#x27;s Golden Icon Awards 2026 on Tuesday, where he also called on journalists and the public to work together “to fight and combat fake news.”In his acceptance speech, Hizon said he was &quot;truly grateful, blessed, and honored&quot; to receive the recognition, attributing the award to the colleagues he worked with across local and international news organizations throughout his more than four decades in journalism.“I am truly grateful, blessed, and honored to receive this Asia’s Golden Icon Award for 2026. Maraming maraming salamat po,” Hizon said.“This would not have been made possible without the men and women who I worked with in local and international newsrooms over the past four decades of my career,” he added.He also dedicated the award to his late mother, whom he credited for inspiring his passion for news, his 98-year-old father, his wife Melanie, and their son Migo for their unwavering support.Hizon also underscored the responsibility of journalists to uphold factual, balanced, credible, and fair reporting amid what he described as the age of fake news, disinformation, misinformation, and deepfakes.“I would like to tell all of you that this is not my job. I cannot fight this by myself. We, you and I, have to fight these fake news peddlers together,” he said. “This is our duty and responsibility to the people and to our country.”
