Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</div>For the first time in an intimate interview, veteran TV host and radio news anchor Winnie Cordero candidly spoke about life after losing her husband in 2023, admitting that while she continues to move forward, the pain has never truly gone away.Appearing on “Oh My Gan!” on Wednesday, Cordero became emotional as she shared how difficult it has been adjusting to life without the man she described as her “rock.”“I’m still heartbroken, and I haven’t overcome it,” she admitted after drawing a question about her biggest heartbreak.The veteran broadcaster revealed that she and her husband had been together for 32 years, including 27 years of marriage, before he passed away following a battle with an aggressive nasopharyngeal tumor.“He was my rock so many times. I cried to him whenever… He knows my strengths, he knows my weaknesses. He was my greatest critic,” she said.Cordero disclosed that she remained beside her husband throughout his illness, even while continuing her professional commitments. She recalled conducting interviews and hosting radio programs from Makati Medical Center while caring for him.She also shared details of his final moments.<div> </div><div><iframe width="960" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/JTXt4Jg0ssI?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></div>According to Cordero, she rushed from Quezon City to Makati after receiving a call from her daughter in the early morning.“All the lights were green,” she recalled.Upon arriving at the hospital, she held her husband’s hand and whispered to him: “‘Kung naririnig mo ako, squeeze my hand.’ Then he squeezed it.” Moments later, he passed away.Despite the heartbreak, Cordero said she remained composed as she handled funeral arrangements herself before finally breaking down: “I took care of everything… It was only when everything was done that I cried.”Even now, she admitted she still texts her late husband, honks at the same road where they used to part ways before work, buys his favorite cake, watches old videos just to hear his voice, and even wears some of his clothes to feel that he is still with her.“I still honk. I still buy him his favorite cake. I wear his clothes… a feeling that kasama ko pa rin siya,” she said.While she acknowledged that grief never truly disappears, Cordero said she continues to find strength in her faith.“I must say prayer really makes the ache not go away but... lessened,” she said.“My mission is to make people happy, to give people entertainment and information in the lightest way that I can.”
