MANILA -- The iconic &quot;Tahanang Pilipino,&quot; popularly known &quot;The Coconut Palace&quot; and located at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex, is set to reopen to the public as a premier events venue and cultural travel destination.Conceived as a government guest house for visiting foreign dignitaries, the Palace was envisioned as a showcase of Filipino architecture, master craftsmanship, and indigenous materials—most notably engineered coconut lumber.  <div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/people-culture-events/2026/8/25/coconut-palace-relaunched-after-p200-m-restoration-to-be-opened-to-public-early-2027-2152">READ: Coconut Palace relaunched after P200-M restoration, to be opened to public early 2027</a></div>Designed by National Artist for Architecture Francisco &#x27;Bobby&#x27; Mañosa and completed in 1981, the guesthouse was offered as accommodation to Pope John Paul II during his first visit to the country—an offer the late Pontiff reportedly declined. It later served as the official office and residence of Vice President Jejomar Binay from 2011 to 2016.  The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), which spent ₱200 million on its renovation, announced the reopening of the Coconut Palace during a media tour on August 25, 2026. This ushers in a renewed opportunity for Filipinos and international visitors to experience one of the country&#x27;s most celebrated cultural and architectural landmarks.  Declared an Important Cultural Property by the National Museum of the Philippines in 2023, the Coconut Palace will serve as one of the official venues for the 49th ASEAN Leaders’ Summit in November.
