Kim Chiu’s siblings reveal her selflessness and generosity as the family’s breadwinner

While being a “breadwinner” might sound like a burden to some, Kim Chiu considers it a privilege. She finds joy in providing for her family. After their parents separated, she and her siblings had to transfer from one relative’s house to another and work hard to survive. Thus, through her PBB winnings, Kim decided to stand up to provide for her siblings’ needs. Her big obligations at the tender age of 16 did not arise out of force, but rather by her love for her family.“Wala naman nagsabi na, ‘Kim, ikaw na magbuhay sa amin,’ ‘Kim, ikaw na magpaaral sa amin,’” she looked back. “Parang, aanhin ko ‘tong pera? Meron naman akong money, wala naman akong bisyo. Para saan ‘yung pera na binigay sa akin na nabigyan ako at a young age ng opportunity ni God, para saan ‘to, so shi-nare ko,” she said.She shouldered everything including her siblings’ education. And now she’s proud to share that her youngest brother, JP, who she sent to an aviation school in Canada, has graduated and is currently completing his hours to be able to fly a commercial plane. Kim got emotional as she recalls her brother’s struggles trying to achieve a big dream away from home, and shares the pride and happiness she feels for being a significant part of his journey as a soon-to-be pilot.Also invited to join Kim in this podcast were her siblings Twinkle and William, who have nothing but gratitude for being blessed with a selfless and helpful sister. They revealed Kim extends her generosity to her ‘pamangkins.’ Twinkle described the Chinita Princess as a strict yet gentle aunt.Kim has been hard at work as a breadwinner for sixteen years but she never felt like the setup is unfair. It is said that sacrifices won’t feel like burden when done with love. Kim is a testament to that. “Hindi naman siya mabigat na responsibility sa akin kasi masaya ako na marami akong kapatid. Sa totoong life, parang hindi talaga ako pala-barkada. So, masaya ako na meron akong mga barkada na mga kadugo ko,” she said.For the <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/itsshowtime">It’s Showtime</a> host, being a breadwinner is a blessing. It is a privilege and a duty she embraces. “Hangga’t kaya ko at hangga’t bibigyan ako ng mga blessings ni Lord, hindi naman para sa akin lang ‘yun. Para ‘yun sa atin, para maganda ang buhay natin. Hindi na tayo manghihingi sa kahit na sino. Hindi na tayo nakikitira. Sabay-sabay tayong nangarap noon na, ‘Pag nakapasok ako sa PBB, may six thousand daw.
