PNP, LTFRB ready for transport strike on Monday

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/sports/02/05/020517_pnp.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">File photo, transport groups will hold a transport strike on Monday to protest the planned phaseout of jeepneys.</div></figcaption></figure></div><p>Authorities said they are ready for the transport strike in Metro Manila on Monday.</p><p>The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will deploy a &#x27;sufficient&#x27; number of policemen in areas expected to be affected by the transport strike.</p><p>The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) also said that up to 5,000 personnel from various government agencies will be deployed to ensure that commuters will not be stranded.</p><p>Authorities have said that private buses, government vehicles and even motorcycles will be sent out to serve commuters.</p><p>Transport groups &#x27;Piston&#x27; and &#x27;Stop and Go&#x27; are leading the transport strike to protest the government&#x27;s plan to phase out jeepneys and replace them with more environment-friendly vehicles.</p><p>The Quezon City Police District said policemen will be deployed as early as 5:00 a.m. in at least 16 areas in Quezon City to monitor the situation, especially stranded passengers.</p><p>These areas include Muñoz, Balintawak, Commonwealth-Litex, Commonwealth-IBP Road, Philcoa, Quezon Avenue-Centris, Welcome Rotunda, Tandang Sora-Commonwealth, Quirino Highway-Zabarte Road, Santolan-Crame, Aurora Boulevard-Annapolis and Timog-Tomas Morato.</p>
