Fifty containers of trash at the Mindanao International Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental are set to be returned to South Korea on Sunday.

The country has so far sent back 102 containers of waste to South Korea. A fourth batch with 50 containers of garbage is scheduled for return next week.

After the 6,500 tons of trash is returned, the Philippines will still ask South Korea to pay for damages after violating the Basel Convention, according to MICT port collector John Simon.

Simon added that the port would seek help from environment department to assess the damage in Verde Soko site, where the trash was dumped after being misdeclared as "plastic synthetic flakes" in July and October 2018.
