Duterte tells Trillanes: Ask banks to sue me

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday challenged Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to ask banks to file charges to prove the latter's allegations that the President has billions in his and his family's bank accounts.

Speaking at the sidelines of his visit to the wake of fallen soldiers in Davao City, Duterte cursed Trillanes and challenged the senator to order banks to file cases.

"Sabihin niyang bangko ang mag-file ng kaso kung talagang totoo. Hindi siya. G*g* siya," Duterte said.

In a speech before alumni of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City on Friday, Duterte reiterated his campaign promise that he will resign if he or any member of his family is proven to be corrupt.

"It's politics again. It's a rehash of...I am telling you it's pure garbage (accusations)," he said.

He added that he does not use any of his allowance as president and only uses his salary.

"I only receive a salary and that's it. I don't even use any of my allowances. Wala po," he said, noting that he must set an example to strengthen his campaign against corruption.

The President on Thursday night said he will resign immediately if Trillanes can prove his allegations that he and his family have billions of pesos in ill-gotten wealth in their bank accounts.

Trillanes alleged in April 2016 that then-presidential race frontrunner Duterte had bank transactions amounting to P2.407 billion.

On Thursday, Trillanes presented documents claiming that bank accounts of Duterte and his three children, and some under the name of the president's partner, Cielito Avancena, had about P2 billion from 2006-2015.

Trillanes said Duterte should come forward and prove him wrong. If his allegations are proven wrong, Trillanes said he will resign from his senatorial post.
