Senator Juan Ponce Enrile scoffed at Senator Leila de Lima’s reference to herself as a “political prisoner,” of the Duterte administration after she was arrested Friday.

The former Senate president, whose involvement in the pork barrel scam was built by the Department of Justice under then Justice Secretary De Lima, said the latter is simply a prisoner.

"There's no such thing as a political prisoner. You are a prisoner, period. Kami na binilanggo nila na wala naman kaming kamuwang muwang, ano kami? Sila santo, santa, at kami demonyo? Ano ba yan?" he said.

(What about us who were detained without any knowledge? What does that make us? They are saints and we are demons? What is that?)

Enrile, who was detained during the Aquino administration for his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam, told De Lima to subject herself to the mercy of the courts

"Bawat isa sa atin, kung may paratang, sagutin. Wala nang reklamo. Bayaan mo na lang sa husgado litisin ang problema,” he said.

(Each one of us should answer to allegations. No more complaints. Just let the courts resolve the problem.)

"Kung wala kang kasalanan, bakit ka matatakot? Huwag kang mag-iingay," he added.

(If you did not do anything wrong, why will you be scared? Don’t make noise.)

Senator Gregorio Honasan added that De Lima should simply face the charges against her.

"Basta dumaan sa due process and rule of law, kahit kaninong administrasyon. Hindi yung weather-weather lang," Honasan said.

(As long as it goes through due process and the rule of law, regardless of any administration. It should not be seasonal.)
