MANILA (UPDATE)—"Moderate steaming" with a height of 200 to 300 meters was seen from Taal Volcano, the Phivolcs said Wednesday night.

For the past few weeks, volcanic activity at Taal has slowed down since its eruption in January; Taal remains under alert level 2.

"Sinasabi naman sa bulletin na kahit alert level 2, pwede pa ring mangyari na may sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosion," Loise Jumawan, a science research specialist at Phivolcs, told radio DZMM.

"Parang medyo tumataas (ang steaming) kumpara sa noong nag-alert level 2 tayo," Jumawan added. "Pero under observation pa siya."

Jumawan advised people living near Taal to be aware as the volcano's activity could increase. "Maging alerto po," she said.

The institute said it will release an advisory soon as it gathers more details.
