MANILA - Mindoro 1st District Rep. Salvador Leachon, who has been removed as a member of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET), has accused Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte of trying to influence the HRET.

Speaking to ANC's Headstart, Leachon said Villafuerte called him up twice and asked him to decide against the case of Kabataan partylist representative Sarah Elago.

"Tinawagan niya ako. Tanggalin si Congresswoman [Sarah] Elago ng Kabataan Partylist, may protest e," said Leachon.

"He said it was under the instruction of the Speaker, and then I talked to the speaker. Sabi niya 'Doy, for any concerns regarding your job you just talk to Secretary General Joel Montales and Cong. Bambol [Abraham Tolentino, 8th District of Cavite]," he said.

He said the HRET has yet to decide on Elago's case.

However, Leachon could not substantiate his claim as it was done through a phone call.

"I'm a third termer congressman, I'll just consider this experiences and happenings as part of my professional journey," he said.

He also answered Villafuerte's claim that he was not transparent when he was HRET chair as there is a case pending against him.

"When we agreed that I was going to be appointed as chair, I had no knowledge at that time that I had a pending case. Two days after learning about the pending case I approached the Speaker," he said.

Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano removed Leachon and Committee on Appropriations chair Isidro Ungab in a minor shake up that was also meant to quell a coup attempt to oust him.

"The very reason I was removed because I uttered statements against him (LRay Villafuerte). The following day, I was removed not because of the afterthought allegations. If the allegations of Cong. LRay would be sustained, then why did it take about 6 months to remove me?" he stressed.

The congressman from Mindoro also denied an attempt to unseat Speaker Cayetano.

"I flatly deny that there's an attempt," he said. He likewise denied that offers were made to congressmen.

Villafuerte said they are ready to name congressmen allegedly involve in the House coup. He said even members of Congress know who they are.

"No problem with me if they say the names. But in so far as my conscience is concerned, it's actually clear," said Leachon.
