Senator Risa Hontiveros has appealed to the lower house to immediately calendar the deliberation of a bill that seeks to extend maternity leave from the current 60 days to 120 days.Hontiveros made the appeal following the approval of her similar bill in the Senate on Monday.The senator&#x27;s bill also features an additional 30-day maternity leave for solo parents.According to Hontiveros, a similar 30-day leave can also be awarded to the mother&#x27;s husband or working parents who will take care of the baby.The 120-day maternity leave can also be given to adoptive parents to give them time to adjust to their adopted baby.Hontiveros said he will be ready to discuss the content of her bill with Rep. Emmeline Aglipay, who is also sponsoring a similar bill but only with a 100-day period maternity leave.Rona Evangelista, a shop staff who gave birth almost 2 years ago, said the extended maternity leave period will be of great help to mothers like her who delivered a baby via Caesarean section.She said she also hopes that the 60-day maximum paid period during her maternity leave can be eventually extended to a 120-day leave in the event that the bill becomes a law.Evangelista spent around P70,000 during her delivery, but she only received around P50,000 from the Social Security System (SSS), which she said is not enough to support her and her baby&#x27;s needs.According to Hontiveros, the SSS and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) are open to the idea of covering the entire maternity leave of a mother provided that the monthly premium will be increased.Meanwhile, Aglipay said her bill is still in the period of interpellation and debate.She has also submitted the bill as a &quot;priority measure&quot; but has yet to receive the decision of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on this.<ul class="op-related-articles" title="">	<li><a href=" http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/03/06/17/senate-oks-120-day-maternity-leave-bill">Senate OKs 120-day maternity leave bill </a></li></ul>
