DUMAGUETE CITY - The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Negros Oriental is investigating an alleged mauling incident during an inspection by jail officials at the Dumaguete City Jail on Monday.

The incident happened during a surprise visit by personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Negros Island Region to the jail's male dormitory.

CHR Negros Head Investigator Dr. Jesus Canete said he received information from the male dormitory warden that a mauling incident occurred during the operation dubbed Oplan Galugad.

He also talked with around 20 detainees who were allegedly hurt during the greyhound operation.

CHR Negros will request a medical examination for the detainees. The agency will also get the names of the 40 BJMP personnel who conducted the operation, to get their account of the events.
