MANILA - The Magdalo group will push for the senatorial bid of Rep. Gary Alejano, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said Thursday.The Magdalo party-list group, which represents retired police and military personnel and their families as well as the urban poor and the youth, has not yet finalized its plans for the 2019 elections, but its members agreed to push for Alejano&#x27;s bid, said Trillanes.&quot;Initially, itutulak namin si Congressman Alejano sa pagtakbo bilang senador nitong 2019 dahil siyempre naniniwala kami that he is very much qualified to do so at may paninindigan at war hero &#x27;yan. His heart is in the right place, most importantly,&quot; Trillanes told reporters.Trillanes, a former Navy officer, and Alejano, a former Marine, were together in mounting the 2003 mutiny in Makati City. Alejano, in a message to reporters, thanked Trillanes for his support but said their group is still in the process of consultation.“I am grateful for Senator Trillanes’ trust and belief on my qualifications, especially given the importance of the position in question and the responsibilities it bears. On my part, I believe that the cause we started in 2003 for the country is a lifetime commitment; and I strive to always act in line with the principles Magdalo has stood for. Henceforth, whatever decision the group will have, I will adhere to the wisdom of the body,&quot; he said.“I confirm that the Magdalo Executive Committee is in the process of deciding our degree of participation in the 2019 elections. There is an ongoing consultation on a national level among Magdalo chapters and other allied groups and organizations. We are awaiting the results of this exercise.&quot;Last year, Alejano filed an impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte, but it was dismissed at the committee level for lack of substance because the lawmaker supposedly presented mere hearsay in accusing the Chief Executive of supporting summary executions of drug suspects, operating a death squad in Davao City, and having a &quot;defeatist&quot; approach towards Beijing&#x27;s assertiveness in the South China Sea.
