<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/tvpatrol/04/03/20190406-girlie.jpg"/><figcaption>Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Girlie Balaba. <em>Photo courtesy of Jefry Tupas, Davao City Information Office</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>CAGAYAN DE ORO - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday endorsed the candidacy of one of her father&#x27;s close friends who is running for councilor in the city&#x27;s second district.</p><p>Duterte-Carpio described Girlie Balaba, who is running under the PDP-Laban party, as a &quot;good friend of the family.&quot;</p><p>Balaba, a former resident of Davao City, is running for councilor of Cagayan de Oro City.</p><p>The President&#x27;s daughter was in Cagayan de Oro to endorse local candidates from Padayon Pilipino-Centrist Democratic Party coalition.</p><p>In a phone interview, Balaba said she was barred from attending the rally since she was running under the PDP-Laban.
