MANILA - Residents of Manila are now required to wear face masks in public to avoid further infections of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the capital, Mayor Isko Moreno announced on Wednesday.

In a live Facebook video, Moreno said he signed the city's Ordinance No. 8627, which mandates the use of face masks in all public places within Manila.

"Pwede po 'yung ginawa ninyo, pwede yung binigay ng siyudad na washable, o surgical mask. Basta kung lalabas po tayo, para maiwasan at mapaliit natin ang probability na magkandahawahawa tayo, habang tayo ay gumagamit ng quarantine pass upang bumili ng mga kakailanganin sa loob ng bahay," Moreno said.
