Abby admits she's 'lone wolf' in Binay family; sees reconciliation after polls

<p>MANILA - Incumbent Makati City Mayor Abigail &quot;Abby&quot; Binay on Wednesday said any reconciliation with Junjun Binay, her brother and rival for the mayoralty, will have to wait until after the May elections. </p><p>Binay, who once begged her brother not to run, said so many things have been said in the campaign that any chance of reconciliation would have to wait.</p><p>&quot;We have to finish the elections first before we even talk about reconciliation. Tapusin muna natin. Let&#x27;s finish the elections. Let&#x27;s respect the results of the elections and then start the healing process. You cannot ask for healing now because the war is ongoing,&quot; she told ANC&#x27;s Headstart. </p><p>&quot;It is only after elections that we can rebuild a relationship and all in God&#x27;s time we will be able to do that,&quot; she said.</p><p>Binay described the war with her brother as an emotional rollercoaster especially after her father, former Vice-President Jejomar Binay, decided to back her reelection bid. </p><p>&quot;We are campaigning against each other. My dad is with me and everybody else is on the other side...Having to choose between your kids is very difficult but he was not choosing as a father of our family. I think he was choosing as the father of Makati. Who is a better choice to run the city,&quot; she said. </p><p>She stressed that this election is about Makati City, and not about her, her brother nor their family.</p><p>&quot;I am not doing this to spite them. Hindi ito labanang pamilya. Labanan ito kung sino ba ang magaling maglingkod sa Makati,&quot; she said.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a I said &#x27;I don&#x27;t want to ruin my holidays.&#x27; There were a lot of holidays that were melodramatic. I grew up different kasi nag UP Los Banos ako. I decide differently, kaya sinasabi ko nga minsan, I ask: &#x27;Was I switched at birth?&#x27; They like being together all the time, which I don&#x27;t. I am not a groupie, which they don&#x27;t seem to accept. &#x27;Bakit ikaw ganyan?&#x27; &#x27;Bakit hindi ka kagaya namin?&#x27; It&#x27;s difficult to explain to them that I&#x27;m not like you. I can say so many things about him as well, but I won’t. Pwede ko rin naman siyang patulan, pero I won’t because may pinagaralan ako, sumusunod ako sa advice ng tatay ko,&quot; she said.</p><p>However, she also accused opposition councilors of politicizing the city&#x27;s 2019 budget.</p><p>&quot;There were certain items that they slashed, ginalaw nila and I feel it&#x27;s very unfair because it takes one year to prepare your budget and it took them what, two weeks?&quot; she said.</p><p>Last March, the Department of Budget (DBM) reenacted the city&#x27;s budget after it was declared inoperative.</p><p>&quot;If you implement an inoperative budget, COA will now come in and files a case against us for implementing an erroneous budget,&quot; the mayor explained. </p><p>The City Council was able to pass the 2019 budget by the end of March, she said.</p><p>&quot;As of today, we now have a budget. Unfortunately, because there&#x27;s an election ban, the salary increase cannot be given to employees until after the election,&quot; she said.</p><p>She also cited other cuts made to the second budget like the summer internship program supposed to provide 8,300 jobs. </p><p>&quot;They slashed it to 1,000,&quot; she lamented.</p><p>&quot;They want to cripple me because they&#x27;re saying I&#x27;m gonna use that for politics. But the thing is, it&#x27;s not for me, para sa mga tao &#x27;yan. Lumaki sa hirap and my brother is not,&quot; she said.</p><p>For her, her version of the Binay Brand would be about transparency and good governance.</p><p>&quot;Maybe the Abby Binay brand will be transparency, good governance, strikta pero may puso. That will be my version of the Binay brand,&quot; she said.</p><p>Unlike her father who was known for being a &quot;KBL&quot; politician or kasal (weddings), binyag (baptisms), libing (wake/funerals) that he has attended, Abby said she has evolved and decided to focus more on kids, on schools, on disaster, health services, and mass transport.</p><p>&quot;We cannot copy our dad because our dad is different. My dad grew up different. Hndi naman siya magiging mayor if the circumstances were different,&quot; she explained.</p>
