MANILA - The lockdown imposed in Luzon and other areas affected by the coronavirus pandemic for over a month now has resulted in a significant decrease in the country&#x27;s crime rate, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed.From the start of the Luzon-wide lockdown on March 17 until April 20, the PNP recorded 2,078 crimes, over half less than the number of crimes recorded from Feb. 11 to March 16 at 5,093. Data showed that 969 cases were reported compared to the 35 days prior to the lockdown at 2,763.The enhanced community quarantine in Luzon has restricted the movement of over 50 million people, suspended school, public transport and work, except for those in essential services.In the Visayas, crime incidence went down by 54.9 percent from the previous 1,302 to 586, while Mindanao&#x27;s crime rate was cut by 49 percent from 1,028 to 523.As of Wednesday, the Philippines has 6,710 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 446 deaths and 693 recovery.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2020/news/04/22/chart.jpg"/></figure></div>
