BAGUIO CITY - Chinese workers are employed at the Chico River pump irrigation project in Kalinga, a video by the Cordillera People’s Alliance showed.

The controversial project is being built under a P3.69-billion loan agreement between Manila and Beijing.

The video shows the group talking to a Chinese employee. They were also able to document the bunkhouses where alleged Chinese construction workers stay.

Chinese characters are also posted on the doors of the bunkhouses.

The locals, meanwhile, reported the presence of 50 to 60 Chinese construction workers.

The alliance said this is a reflection of the Duterte administration’s leaning towards the Chinese government.

“P3,000 ang pinakamababa ng Chinese tapos ang Pilipino P350. Insultong insulto na nga sa atin dahil barya-barya na nga lang ang ibinibigay taun-taon tuwing Mayo 1 sa kabila ng mga nagtataasang presyo ng mga bilihin at serbisyo," said Mike Cabangon of Kilusang Mayo Uno-Cordillera.

(The Chinese receive a minimum of P3,000 while Filipinos receive P350. This is a huge insult for us because they only give us change every May 1 despite the increasing prices of goods and services.)
