MANILA - Senate President pro tempore Ralph Recto wants the next Senate under the 18th Congress to produce significant laws and look at major issues.

Recto made the point while discussing the significance of what the outgoing Senate can still bring during its remaining nine days of session.

"My personal position is that all major issues next congress. No midnight sessions, no lame duck sessions, I don’t think we should be passing many important … in lame duck sessions," Recto told reporters.

"I’m against any taxes in the next nine days," he added.

Recto also said it is their obligation to organize a new Senate specifically, as to who will handle committees.

There is no need to fix the senate leadership because they only have one under Senate President Vicente Sotto III, he said.

"Looks like it (Senator Sotto's leadership) 99.999 percent," Recto said.

He likewise said he prefers to retain his position as Senate President pro tempore.

"Puwede akong makisawsaw sa lahat ng bills," Recto said.
