MANILA - More than 680,000 families in Manila will get another P1,000 in cash aid from the city government on Thursday as part of its efforts to financially assist residents amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said that the second tranche of their City Amelioration Crisis Assistance Fund (CACAF) will include families from 896 barangays in Districts 4, 5 and 6.The Manila public information office (MPIO) said the cash aid was initially for 607,000 families. &quot;However, with their updated master lists, the number of families recorded increased to more than 680,000,&quot; the MPIO said.Moreno earlier said the first batch of cash aid has been released to more than 300 barangays in the city&#x27;s District 1, District 2 and District 3. Financial aid was also given to senior citizens, solo parents, persons with disabilities and students of the city-run Pamantansan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Universidad de Manila, the MPIO said.Food packs, rice sacks and milk assistance for senior citizens were also distributed in Manila.Meanwhile, jeepney, tricycle, e-trike and pedicab drivers have been provided with 25 kilos of rice, it said. One rice sack was also given to each police officer under the Manila Police District, the MPIO said.At least P5,000 worth of cash aid was also given to over 10,000 teachers and more than 1,000 non-teaching personnel working in schools in the capital.More than 1,000 COVID-19 cases have been logged in Manila, which recorded the first infection in the country last January.Due to the pandemic, employers and employees alike lost income after the national government placed Metro Manila under strict lockdown on March 15.After two months of strict measures, the government ordered Manila, along with other cities in the capital region, to shift to a modified lockdown, which allows other &quot;essential&quot; establishments to continue operations to get the country&#x27;s economy running again.
