(UPDATE) The Darul Ifta for Western Mindanao and Palawan said Monday night that the festival of breaking the fast (Eid al-Fitr) will be on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.Sheikh Abduwaki Tanjilil, deputy mufti of Darul Ifta in western Mindanao and Palawan, said the crescent moon was not sighted Monday night in Zamboanga City, as well as in other neighboring Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia. Thus, this automatically moves the Eid celebration to Wednesday.The Islamic calendar, which is lunar-based, has been traditionally used by Muslim religious leaders and scholars to mark the start and end of the holy month of Ramadhan.Tanjilil said Filipino Muslims will begin the celebration by participating in prayers, gathering in mosques and open spaces.They would congratulate each other and visit relatives and neighbors, sharing food especially prepared for the Eid celebration.Tanjilil also reminded Filipino Muslims not to forget to give alms to the poor and share their blessings to others, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.Muslims will still have to fast for another day where they need to abstain from eating and drinking from Fajr which is before sunrise until Magrib or before sunset.The Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro also discouraged Muslims from doing &quot;mobile takbir&quot; on the eve of Eid&#x27;l Fitr as this is not part of the teachings of Islam.On Eid&#x27;l Fitr, Muslims will gather for the congregational prayer in different mosques and open grounds to praise and thank the Almighty Allah for completing Ramadhan.Eid&#x27;l Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan for Muslims.There are around 6 million Muslims in the Philippines, according to official data.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/05/29/19/duterte-declares-june-5-a-holiday-for-eidl-fitr-medialdea">Duterte declares June 5 a holiday for Eid’l Fitr</a></li></ul><div>- reports from RJ Rosalado and Lore Mae Andong, ABS-CBN News</div>
