Poe is eligible for to run for a second term next year. She topped the 2013 senatorial elections but placed third in the 2016 presidential race.

"I’m running in 2019—if I run in 2019. I’m not even sure at this point. It’s a personal reason for me, I have to talk to my husband about this," Poe told ANC's Headstart.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III, reacting to Alvarez's statement, said postponing or scrapping the 2019 elections would not be possible without amending the provision in the Constitution that polls must be done every second Monday of May every 3 years.
