TUPI, South Cotabato - A state of calamity has been declared in the municipality of Tupi in South Cotabato due to a sudden increase in dengue cases.From April to July 20, four deaths have been recorded in three barangays in Tupi. The number of dengue cases is now at 297 and still continues to increase.&quot;Nagsimula ang pagkalat ng dengue dahil mayroong tayong mga nakikita pa ring breeding sites nila,&quot; said municipal health officer Dr. Apolinar Hatulan.&quot;Kaya ini-encourage namin sila na talagang linisang mabuti ang paligid. Nagsimula na rin kami last week ng aming ABaKaDa advocacy o itong Aksyon Barangay Kontra Droga,&quot; he added.The bigger problem, however, is there is not enough hospitals to accommodate all dengue patients.The local government unit admitted that hospital capacity is only up to 30 but they now have a total of 115 patients.Some patients were already referred to provincial and private hospitals.Patients who chose to stay in the hospital in the municipality were advised to bring their own bedding.&quot;Nag-setup na lang kami ng tent dun mismo sa labas ng hospital to accommodate lahat ng pasyente kasi di naman natin sila pwedeng tanggihan. Hindi sila komportable pero ang dengue naman kasi kailangan nating ma-treat,&quot; Mayor Reynaldo Tamayo said.&quot;Sa ngayon, wala tayong magagawa sa kakulangan ng hospital pero we are doing our best para matulungan ang mga pasyente at libre naman ang ospital nila,&quot; he added.The municipal government will use the calamity fund amounting to P1 million to help the victims and combat dengue.
