MANILA - The Department of Justice on Friday held a necrological service for the late former Justice Minister and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Ricardo Puno Sr. to honor his life and legacy.Puno, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 95, was honored by Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Vitug, and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Remedios Salazar Fernando.<ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/07/25/18/ex-justice-ricardo-puno-sr-passes-away">Ex-Justice Ricardo Puno Sr. passes away</a></li></ul><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en">Family, friends, former colleagues of Minister of Justice Ricardo Puno, Sr. (1923-2018) gather at the Department of Justice for necrological service in his honor <a href="https://t.co/yYclZjQLAt">pic.twitter.com/yYclZjQLAt</a>— Ina Reformina (@InaReformina) <a href="https://twitter.com/InaReformina/status/1022659383463882753?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 27, 2018</a></blockquote><div><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charSet="utf-8" type="text/javascript"></script></div>They delivered heartfelt eulogies of personal stories with Puno as a friend, mentor, and law professor.The service was attended by Puno&#x27;s former colleagues at the justice department, the appellate court, and the Supreme Court.Supreme Court Associate Justices Teresita De Castro, Mariano Del Castillo, and Alexander Gesmundo also attended the service along with incumbent and retired magistrates of the appellate court, and other public officials.After the service, Puno’s remains were brought back to the Heritage Park in Taguig City.Puno was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos to head the Ministry of Justice from 1979 to 1984.He served as an assemblyman of the Batasang Pambansa from 1978 to 1979 and was Philippine delegate to the United Nations General Assembly from 1979 to 1984.He also served in the judiciary from 1965 to 1978, first as a district judge before being appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1973. Puno finished law at the Manuel L. Quezon University and got admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1949. He founded the Puno &amp; Puno Law Offices with his son, former Press Secretary Ricardo “Dong” Puno Jr. His son Ronaldo “Ronnie” Puno served as Secretary of the Interior and Local Government to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
