MANILA - The Quezon City government plans to permanently close the Payatas sanitary landfill by the end of 2017.

City Administrator Aldrin Cuña on Thursday said they are already working on the closure because the sanitary landfill is already near its carrying capacity limit, 7 years after it was opened.

Parts of the Payatas landfill were closed temporarily last week due to the monsoon rains.

For now, trucks dispose the waste in a sanitary landfill in Rizal, as allowed by the MMDA.
