Tiamzons, Silva granted bail

<p>A local court has granted bail to communist leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon and Adelberto Silva ahead of the scheduled peace talks with the communist insurgency in Oslo later this month.</p><p>Initial reports said Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 32 granted the motion for release on bail for the Tiamzon couple and Silva.</p><p>The court also allowed the travel of the Tiamzon couple, Silva, Satur Ocampo, Randal Echaniz and Rafael Baylosis to Oslo for the talks.</p><p>The Tiamzons, Satur Ocampo and their co-accused are facing multiple murder charges for the brutal killing of 15 civilians discovered in a mass grave in 2006 in Inopacan, Leyte.</p><p>The Philippine military arrested the Tiamzons, along with five others, in 2014 based on a warrant issued by a regional trial court in Leyte.</p><div><a href="http://k2.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/metro-manila/05/07/15/tiamzon-couple-wont-enter-plea-leyte-killings-case"><strong>Tiamzon couple won&#x27;t enter plea in Leyte killings case</strong></a></div><p>Benito Tiamzon is identified as the chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People&#x27;s Army (CPP-NPA) while his wife is the secretary-general of the group.</p><p>Silva, who was arrested at his home in Bacoor City in 2015, is identified as the CPP’s secretary general and concurrent chief of the National Organization Department.</p><div><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/nation/regions/06/02/15/communist-groups-number-2-arrested"><strong>Communist group&#x27;s number 2 arrested</strong></a></div><p>The National Democratic Front has claimed the Tiamzons are &#x27;&#x27;peace consultants&#x27;&#x27; and should be immune from arrest.</p><div><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/video/focus/06/15/16/ndfp-itinangging-utak-sa-masaker-ang-mag-asawang-tiamzon"><strong>NDFP, itinangging utak sa masaker ang mag-asawang Tiamzon</strong></a></div>
