(4th UPDATE) One person was killed while four others were severely injured after a cement mixer truck crushed a car on Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City on Tuesday, an official said.

The car driver was declared dead on arrival at 7:32 p.m., the Metro North Medical Center and Hospital said.

Three passengers brought to the same hospital are now in stable condition.

Meanwhile, a 12-year-old child was brought to the Quezon City General Hospital.

The Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 6 said the vehicle had 5 passengers: a man, a woman, and their three children.

The truck driver, who has been arrested, said the vehicle lost its brakes and he decided to hit the center island.

However, the vehicle tipped over and crushed the car beside it.

The driver, whose name is still being withheld as of posting, expressed his apologies to the victims.

Authorities have removed the crushed car and the cement mixer truck from the road.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago earlier said three passengers of the crushed Honda vehicle sustained major injuries, and the sedan driver had "no pulse".

The cement mixer overturned in front of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology along Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City.

The driver of the cement mixer truck has been arrested, said Pialago.

Pialago initially said at least 2 were killed in the incident.

“Initial report na nakarating po sa atin, meron pong mixer dumiretso po sa center island tumagilid po. Nakakalungkot po may nadaganan hong sasakyan," Pialago told radio DZMM.

Authorities have yet to determine why the truck was traversing the road as there is a "total truck ban" from EDSA Magallanes to North Avenue, Quezon City every day, except Sundays and holidays.
