Among those who died were Lenie Ombrog, 52, and Davy Shane Alayon, 7.Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Army&#x27;s 6th Infantry Division, said the improvised bomb exploded while several soldiers were chasing the still-unidentified culprit. They have yet to determine the motive behind the blast.Duterte initially declared martial law in May 2017 when the Islamic State-inspired terrorists laid siege upon the southern city of Marawi. Congress extended martial law until the end of 2017 upon the President&#x27;s request.The Marawi siege ended in October 2017 but Duterte requested to extended martial law further for the rest of 2018, citing a lingering terror threat in Mindanao as well as the armed insurgency of the New People’s Army as his reason. Congress granted his request.Several lawmakers questioned the Congress&#x27; decisions before the Supreme Court but both martial law extensions were upheld by the high court.
