in the English Essay category of the prestigious Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature contest this year. </p><p>Canoy’s winning entry was his longform piece on the 5-month-long siege of Marawi, “Buhay Pa Kami (We Are Still Alive): Dispatches from Marawi” which was written for ABS-CBN News Digital.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/specials/dispatches-from-marawi">&#x27;Buhay pa kami&#x27;: Dispatches from Marawi</a></li></ul><p>The award continues the Kapamilya reporter’s winning year. </p><p>In September, he was named the 2018 Marshall McLuhan fellow by the Embassy of Canada and the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility. Established in 1997, the prestigious Marshall McLuhan Fellowship is awarded yearly to a recipient &quot;embodying outstanding qualities in the field of investigative journalism.&quot;</p><p>In June, Canoy also received an honorable mention award from the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) for Excellence in Explanatory Reporting.</p><p>Earlier this year, his Marawi documentary with fellow journalist Chiara Zambrano also bagged a Gold World Medal at the New York Festivals.</p><p>Red Alert, an ABS-CBN show hosted by Canoy, won the 2018 Golden Dove Award for Best TV Public Service Program in May.</p><p>Canoy will be honored by the Carlos Palanca Foundation on October 5 along with the rest of the winners of this year’s competition.</p>
