MANILA -- The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman has called for privacy to the family of one of the Sigma Rho fraternity members implicated in a hazing incident who was found dead Saturday.

The university's Office of the Chancellor appealed to students and faculty to stop posting and forwarding social media messages related to the fraternity member's death.

"Let us do this out of a sense of decency and respect for the privacy of the family," it said in a statement Sunday.

"Sensationalism is itself a form of a violent assault, and is not the solution to the fraternity culture of violence."

Last week, photos and screenshots of a group chat of supposed members of Sigma Rho on hazing-related violence became viral on social media.

A photo showed an anonymous man with bruises on both arms.

The university earlier said it has launched an investigation into the incident, adding that it would keep the public up to date on its findings.

UP College of Law sorority Delta Lambda Sigma has also denounced the actions of the fraternity and demanded "full accountability."
