CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Former Davao-based broadcaster Girlie Balaba filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for city councilor on Wednesday.

Balaba is part of Cagayan de Oro City (CDO) Mayor Oscar Moreno's slate. They are running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Majority of those included in the administration's line-up are current and former elected officials from city, congressional districts, and barangay posts, except for Balaba who is a newcomer.

A former reporter and anchor of ABS-CBN Davao, Balaba is said to be "close" to President Rodrigo Duterte.

"I think everybody is close to the President," Balaba told ABS-CBN recently, when asked about her closeness to Duterte.

She also denied that there were conflicts between her and the Duterte family.

During the 2016 election campaign, Duterte admitted to having 2 wives and 2 girlfriends. He said one girlfriend worked at a cosmetics section of a mall in Davao City, and the other was a cashier.

Duterte was married to Elizabeth Zimmerman, and is in a relationship with nurse Honeylet Avancena. - report from Rod Bolivar, ABS-CBN News
