CLARIN, Misamis Occidental—The family of David Navarro, the slain mayor of this town, said Saturday they have police documents showing Navarro was not involved in the illegal drug trade.

According to the documents from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Navarro "was not directly involved in illegal drug trades and engaged in narco-related financial activities during his previous terms, and up to present" as town mayor.

Navarro's questionable activities were only related to his failure to declare his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

Dan Navarro said his brother had served his suspension due to the SALN issue.

Navarro was gunned down Friday, a day after he was arrested for beating up a massage therapist in Cebu City on Thursday.

He was on Duterte's list of so-called narco-politicians and was said to have illegal-drug trade links to the Parojinogs of Ozamiz City.

"Hindi kami vocal against kung ano'ng nangyari sa listahan. Basta ginawa namin, nagpa-clear kami," Dan Navarro said.

"Although there is a lot of pressure, alam mo marinig namin na ang daming threat sa amin pagkatapos ng listahan. Pero 'yun lang nakapagbigay ng lakas ng loob namin because the truth is with us, hindi totoo ang lahat."

The town mayor's sister, Princess, earlier said she believes Navarro's killing was related to his inclusion in the narco list.

According to his brother, Navarro supported Duterte's nationwide anti-narcotics operation, and even won the National Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Award in 2018.

Navarro was on his second term as Clarin mayor before he was ambushed by still unidentified gunmen.
