MANILA - Two areas have been placed under tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 as tropical depression Ramon moves west slowly.

State weather bureau PAGASA, in its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, said Ramon was last spotted 670 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center with gusts of up to 70 kph.

It is moving slowly in a westward direction.

Signal No. 1 has been raised over Eastern Samar and the eastern portion of Northern Samar.

It is expected to bring light to moderate with occasional heavy rains over Bicol region, Northern Samar, Samar and Eastern Samar on Wednesday.

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may also be expected over Romblon, Marinduque, and Southern Quezon.

Ramon, the 18th storm to affect the country this year, is expected to intensify into a tropical storm within the next 48 hours.

PAGASA warned fisherfolks that sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas.
