<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/news-special1/nation/11/21/marcos-112116.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">Photo from Imee Marcos&#x27; Facebook page</div></figcaption></figure></div>MANILA- Framers of the 1987 Constitution on Thursday condemned the clandestine burial of the late dictator and former President Ferdinand Marcos at the heroes&#x27; cemetery, saying the Constitution was the &quot;antithesis of everything that was Marcos.&quot;&quot;We condemn the burial of the dictator Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani, in shameless treachery, in disregard of the facts of history, in contempt of the grief and sufferings of the bereaved victims of martial law, and in defiance of the hopes of our people and their children to build a future based on the values of truth, justice, respect for human rights and caring for others,&quot; a statement released by the surviving members of the commission that drafted the 1987 constitution said.The statement was signed by Felicitas Aquino-Arroyo, widow of Senator Joker Arroyo, retired Supreme Court justice Adolf Azcuna, Florangel Rosario Braid, former chief justice Hilario Davide Jr, former Commission on Elections chairman Christian Monsod, Edmundo Garcia, Ricardo Romulo, Commission on Human Rights chair Jose Luis Martin Gascon, economist Bernardo Villegas, and Jaime Tadeo.They added that the overthrow of the Marcos dictatorship was the backdrop to the drafting of the 1987 Constitution.&quot;The power of the people deposed a tyrant whose greed was boundless and whose cruelty was criminal to countless victims who were detained arbitrarily, tortured, made to “disappear” and “salvaged” during the martial law years,&quot; the statement said.They added: &quot;The Constitution was written after nationwide consultations with a sovereign people whose valiant resistance to ruthless dictatorial rule and vision of a new social order are inscribed in its provisions.&quot;The final draft of the 1987 Constitution was completed by the Constitutional Commission on October 12, 1986 and was ratified by a nationwide plebiscite on February 2, 1987.Former SC Associate Justice Cecilia Muñoz-Palma served as the commission&#x27;s president.The statement added that the Constitution &quot;envisions a different future from the Marcosian nightmare of greed, intolerance, brutality and disrespect for democratic institutions. And we are inspired by the outpouring of protest by the youth who give life to our hope for generations of heroes who are the antithesis of everything that was Marcos.&quot;The late dictator was discreetly buried at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani last week, sparking protests from different groups in some parts of the country.
