President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 79 Judge Bernelito R. Fernandez to the Sandiganbayan.&quot;I am pleased to transmit herewith the appointment letter of Mr. Bernelito Fernandez, Associate Justice of the Sandiganbayan (vice TEresita Diaz-Baldos), signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte,&quot; said a letter by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to the Supreme Court.Fernandez is the son of former Tanodbayan Bernardo Fernandez during the Marcos regime.The elder Fernandez earlier said he, through the then Special Prosecutor of the Office of the Tanodbayan, <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/nation/06/22/14/palace-sees-no-clash-jbc-over-sandiganbayan-nominees">prosecuted</a> the late Gen. Fabian Ver and many others in the 1983 double murder case of Ninoy Aquino and Rolando Galman, the alleged assassin of the former senator. Ver and the other accused were later absolved in the murders. Duterte will appoint three more Sandiganbayan justices with the retirement of Associate Justices Jose Hernandez and Napoleon Inoturan, and the impending retirement of Roland Jurado.
