Typhoon Odette makes landfall over Siargao

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img alt="US NOAA / Himawari-8 image loop showing Odette making landfall over Siargao" src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2021/news/12/16/odette.png"/><figcaption>US NOAA / Himawari-8 image loop showing Odette making landfall over Siargao</figcaption></figure></div><h3>More areas placed under signal no. 4 </h3><p>MANILA (UPDATE)— Typhoon Odette (International name: Rai) on Thursday afternoon made its first landfall in the Philippines over Siargao in Surigao del Norte, PAGASA said. </p><p>In its latest advisory, the state weather bureau said the center of Odette hit land around 1:30 p.m.</p><p>The country&#x27;s 15th storm this year, which was packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) with gusts of up to 240 kph as of 2 p.m., is moving west northwestward at a speed of 30 kph, based on PAGASA&#x27;s latest bulletin. </p><p>It added that Odette could cross several provinces in Central and Western Visayas regions before emerging over the Sulu Sea Friday morning. </p><div><strong>SLIGHT WEAKENING</strong></div><p>PAGASA said Odette might weaken slightly once it passes over northeastern Mindanao, Visayas, and Palawan but it would still continue being a typhoon during the course.</p><p>&quot;Re-intensification is likely once “ODETTE” emerges over the West Philippine Sea.
