Magnitude 4.6 quake hits Davao del Sur days after powerful tremor

MANILA - A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit Davao del Sur on Tuesday afternoon, just days after a powerful temblor shook Mindanao and left at least 7 dead.

The fresh tremor struck 6 kilometers southwest of Magsaysay town at 2:07 p.m., Phivolcs said. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 21 kilometers, it added.

Below are areas where the quake was felt:

  • Intensity V - Hagonoy, Davao del Sur
  • Intensity IV - Davao City
  • Intensity III - Kidapawan City

The following instrumental intensities were reported:

  • Intensity III - Kidapawan City
  • Intensity I - Kiamba, Sarangani

The tremor was not expected to cause damage and aftershocks.

Sunday's magnitude 6.9 quake struck south of President Rodrigo Duterte's hometown Davao City, burying at least 6 people in the trading town of Padada.

Neighboring Matanao town, where the epicenter was located, recorded 2 fatalities: an 81-year-old woman who succumbed to heart attack during the quakes and a 6-year-old girl who was crushed by her collapsed family home.
