The Bureau of Immigration is set to deport a Korean and a Japanese who are wanted fugitives in their countries.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the two aliens were arrested in separate operations conducted early this week in Metro Manila by operatives of the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU).

The Korean was identified as Hwang Seongbin, 34, who was arrested Sept. 30 along Rockwell Drive, Bgy. Poblacion, Makati City. The second fugitive, Japanese national Sasaki Yohei, 36, was collared Oct. 1 along Mercury Street, Bahay Toro, Quezon City.

Both aliens were arrested on the strength of mission orders that Viado issued at the request of the South Korean and Japanese governments which sought their deportation so they could be tried for crimes they allegedly committed.

Hwang, who is the subject of an Interpol red notice and a warrant of arrest from the Eujeong district court in Korea is reportedly wanted for his involvement in a stock investment scam he allegedly perpetrated during his stint as president of a financial institution.

He was accused of luring his victims to invest in the scam which caused them to incur combined losses of 100 million won, or more than US$75,000.

On the other hand, Yohei has an active warrant of arrest issued by the Omiya summary court in Saitama, Japan where he was charged for defrauding an elderly victim in a nursing home where he worked as a staff member.

Yohei allegedly enticed the victim to invest more than 3 million yen in a fake contract-related transaction.

Likewise, the Japanese man is an alleged member of a Cambodia-based telecom fraud syndicate engaged in kidnapping, illegal detention, extortion, and fraud.

It was learned that several high-ranking members of the syndicate were already arrested in previous operations by the BI-FSU.

Viado said the duo will be deported after the BI Board of Commissioners issues the order for their summary deportation after which they will be blacklisted and banned from reentering the country.

They are currently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
