The Commission on Higher Education will help provide IT manpower in the 2025 midterm elections, by identifying schools with expertise on information technology, as well as available personnel and students, who can assist in the conduct of the May polls.

MANILA — The Commission on Higher Education will help provide IT staffing in the 2025 midterm elections, by identifying schools with expertise on information technology, as well as available personnel and students, who can assist in the conduct of the May polls.

CHED recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Commission on Elections on the partnership.

CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera III said the COMELEC will train the selected IT experts from different higher educational institutions on the automated election system to prepare them to assist different voting precincts.

De Vera said there were "horror stories" in past elections of voting being suspended or delayed because of malfunctioning machines that could not be repaired or replaced quickly.

“Things like this can be addressed if at the ground level mayroon nang technology support sa ating electoral system kasi napakarami nating mga voting precincts,” De Vera said in an interview on PTV’s Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

(Things like this can be addressed by having technology support at the ground level and we have so many voting precincts)

He said the IT experts could also help with problems in transmitting voting results.

“So, lahat iyan technology solution ang kailangan diyan at ang sagot diyan ay gamitin iyong mga marunong sa teknolohiya para sila ang tutulong,” he added.

(All of these problems need a technology solution and the solution to that is to deploy experts so they can help)

CHED and COMELEC are also eyeing to team up in voter education ahead of the May polls.
