MANILA — San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection as the local chief executive of the city.

Zamora is eyeing the third of three consecutive terms allowed by law.

Zamora was elected in 2019, ending five decades of control of city hall by the rival Estrada clan. As of noon, according to Comelec-San Juan, no other mayoral aspirants have filed COCs.

Zamora said he will continue his programs for the people of San Juan that include a pambansang pabahay (national housing) program that aims to build thousands of housing units with the help of Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Meanwhile, former basketball player and San Juan 1st District Councilor James Yap is gunning for a second term in the city council.

He was accompanied by his supporters when he filed his COC on Monday morning but admitted no members of his family were with him.

He said they were all busy with errands.

According to Yap, he will focus on helping the youth of San Juan by giving them allowance and scholarships to deserving students.
