Ted Aljibe, AFP</span></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Wednesday it allocated some P807 million to help homeless children and families. </p><p>Sen. Imee Marcos, DSWD’s budget sponsor, said the agency’s Oplan Pag-Abot provides financial and transport assistance to homeless individuals. </p><div dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/06/30/23/dswd-to-rescue-the-homeless-under-new-program">DSWD to rescue homeless people in Metro Manila under &#x27;Oplan Pag-abot&#x27; program</a></div><p>“Hindi naman kaya ng iba’t ibang local government units na sagutin ang kanilang pabahay kaya nagkaroon ng Pag-Abot program,” said Marcos. </p><p>In 2024 alone, the senator said the program reached 741 individuals and 1,380 families in the streets. </p><p>“Mayroon ding transitory shelter assistance, may livelihood, employment, psychosocial. ‘Yung iba naman ayaw umuwi at kinakabahan o inaabuso. Maraming kinakailangan gawin sa kanila, yung capability building at community assistance,” she said.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/spotlight/multimedia/slideshow/12/02/22/metro-manilas-homeless-find-shelter-in-pushcarts">Metro Manila&#x27;s homeless find shelter in pushcarts</a></div><p>Sen. Aquilino &quot;Koko&quot; Pimentel III said he hoped the program would be effective since this was launched just last year.</p><p>“The test of the program should be the fact that we would no longer see these street kids or street families kasi mayroon nang nag-aalaga sa kanila,” he said. </p><p>Marcos assured Pimentel that the agency continues to monitor the program’s effectiveness, with 100 workers assigned for field work on this project. </p><p>“Wala [silang] ginawa kundi ikutan nang ikutan ang mga lansangan kasi nandiyan sila at kung minsan ang mga humahawak sa mga bata alam natin ay mga sindikato na mismong mga magulang ay kasapi,” she said. </p><p>“Nakakahiyang sabihin pero yun talaga ang nangyayari kaya talagang pabalik-balik.
