Marcos Jr. off to Washington for summit with US, Japan
MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr departed on Wednesday afternoon for Washington DC to attend the historic trilateral meeting with the leaders of the United States and Japan this week.
The presidential plane left Villamor Airbase in Pasay City at 2:56 pm, according to Malacañang.
In his departure speech, Marcos said the meeting aims to advance cooperation and partnership among the three countries.

He said he also intends to underscore the importance of economic cooperation “with a view of promoting economic resilience and of course, security.”

He said key areas for cooperation are critical infrastructure, semiconductors, digitalization and cybersecurity as well as mining and energy.
Marcos also said he intends to exchange views with US President Joe Biden and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on matters relating to “security issues of mutual concern”.
He would also reiterate “the importance of upholding the rule of law and preserving the rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region.”

“The main intent of this trilateral agreement is for us to be able to continue to flourish, to be able to help one another, and of course, to keep the peace in the South China Sea and the freedom of navigation in the South China Sea,” the President said.
